Porsche 356 Speedster: il mito.

E' facile incontrare per strada potenti auto rombanti da centinaia di cavalli. Ci si ferma a guardarle, si scatta qualche foto e si fantastica su quanto l'acceleratore ci attacchi al sedile quando messo in orizzontale.

Meno facile è, invece, incontrare le vecchiette, quelle che di solito hanno storie da raccontare, ma che raramente si fanno vedere in giro.

La Porsche 356 Speedster è una di quelle.

Per i tempi moderni non è fra le più veloci, non ha un design futuristico e bisogna essere appassionati di auto d'epoca per volerne una.

E' comunque un'auto straordinaria.

Non aspettatevi motori da 5000cv in stile Devel sixteen. Si parla di equipaggiamenti quasi da utilitaria. Le motorizzazioni spaziavano da 40 cv a 110 cv e il propulsore derivava da quello del Maggiolino Volkswagen, di cui, a mio parere, richiama anche le forme.

Fra gli optional il riscaldamento e il parabrezza removibile per le competizioni su strada.

Si tratta però di un'auto che ha dato la spinta alla Porsche per la realizzazione dei modelli che oggi ci fanno girare la testa (vedi Porsche 911). La sua costruzione avvenne in un periodo difficile, subito dopo la II guerra mondiale, tanto che la produzione Porsche fu spostata dalla Germania all'Austria.

Nonostante tutto ci riuscirono e anche bene.

E' considerata fra le auto più romantiche.

Tutti gli appassionati dei voli in jet al tramonto ricorderanno Kelly McGillis guidarne una con Tom Cruise in Top Gun. E loro di velocità ne sanno qualcosa.

Altri la ricorderanno guidata da Dylan Mckay,tavola da surf dietro la schiena, fra le soleggiate e spensierate strade della California in Beverly Hills 90210.

Per ultimo, solo perché chi leggerà non lo dimentichi, la Porsche 356 Speedster ha avuto al volante l'intramontabile fascino spaccone di James Dean, che, nell'anno delle riprese di "Gioventù Bruciata", ad essa preferì la nuova e più potente Porsche 550 Spyder. Auto che il 30 settembre del 1955 gli procurò la morte.

Un'auto dal fascino indiscusso. Un'auto dalla storia ricamata da mani esperte. Un'auto che, come James Dean, si affaccia con sufficienza sul mondo moderno solo per constatare che, nonostante siano passati tanti anni, sono ancora poche le auto che come lei possono definirsi storiche.

It’s easy to meet on the street roaring and powerful cars. You stop to look at them, take some pictures and imagine how much the accelerator could attach you when it is put horizontal.

It’s less easy, though, meet the “old ladies”, those who usually have stories to tell, but who rarely show themselves around.

The Porsche 356 Speedster is one of them.

For the modern age it’s not among the fastests, it hasn’t a futuristic design and you must be passionate about classic cars for desiring one.

However, it is an extraordinary car.

Don’t expect 5000hp engines in the Devel sixteen style. We are talking about equipments that today we can find only on city cars. The engines went from 40hp up to 110hp and they were obtained from the VW Beetle one. In my opinion, the Porsche has its design in common with the Beetle as well.

Talking about optionals it has warm air conditioning and the removable windshield in case of street competitions.

We are also talking about a car that pushed Porsche for the future realization of the models that today make our heads turning around (for example the Porsche 911). It was realized in a hard period, immediately after the II world war, which brought to move the production from Germany to Austria.

Nevertheless they managed to keep on doing it.

It is considered among the most romantic cars.

All the passionate about jet flights at sunset should remember Kelly Mc Gillis driving one with Tom Cruise in Top Gun. And they are conscious of what speed means.

Others will remember it driven by Dylan Mckay, surfing board in the back, along the sunny and carefree streets of California in Beverly Hills 90210.

As last, only because it’s not forgotten by the reader, the Porsche 356 Speedster was also driven by the timeless charm of James Dean, who preferred the new and more powerful Porsche 550 Spyder. Car in which he found the death on the 30 september 1955, the same year of “Rebel Without a Cause”.

It is undoubtedly a charming car. A car with a history embroidered by expert hands. A care that, like James Dean, look out on the modern world just to verify that, even though a lot of years has passed, there aren’t many cars that can be called memorable.
